COMMENTS:

Eugene Glembocki (Dennis) – I believe in leash laws, but feel at home dogs should have a secure yard to run in.
For many of us, animals are our friends and in some cases companions. People who harm or injure animals are capable of the same to other human beings.

Burgess Hamer (Middle) – Thank you for thinking of me.

Dan Lockwood (Middle) – I like simple solutions. For instance, our community could really use sidewalks. That would make it better for our seniors and easier to walk dogs.

Kristine Gabor (Upper) – We have just updated our animal control service in Upper Township and will be opening our new dog park this month. Thank you.

Steven Nickelsberg (Upper) – None

Richard Palumbo (Upper) – We have worked hard to partner with Beacon Animal Rescue to allow animals a second chance with another family. We believe in spay and neuter programs and we offer free rabies clinics with a local veterinarian. We also just contracted with Dr. Holland to perform our animal control needs.

Louis Murray (Woodbine) – We would like for our animal to have the best care than can have. We have people in Woodbine who take good care of their animals.

League Seeks Questions for State Candidates

The League of Humane Voters, CMC is currently constructing a questionnaire for candidates running for state office in the fall. Please forward any questions you have concerning companion animals which you believe would be important to ask these candidates.

The final questions will be forwarded to candidates this summer. Results will be tabulated and recorded in early October.

02 November 2008

The League of Humane Voters has seven completed surveys from nineteen sent to candidates in county communities. This is a great response for our first attempt to carve out a place for humane issues in local candidates’ campaigns.

As a humane voting block, Humane Voters seeks to educate and support candidates/officials in creating meaningful ordinances.

All candidates will received a follow up letter with the survey results as well as information pertinent to their community such as number of dogs and cats brought to the shelter.

While almost every Lower candidate returned a survey, there was only one returned from Woodbine and none from Dennis, Wildwood, Stone Harbor and Upper.

Please review the responses. Final responses will be placed on the blog on November 1, 2008. (http://lhvcmc.blogspot.com )

The League of Humane Voters is a virtual voting block. There are no meetings, no dues and no nonsense. Please forward ideas for creating surveys for the next election as well as general humane goals for the county. Please join LHVCMC by emailing humane.voter@gmail.com You will receive quarterly notices and be invited to share your ideas in a variety of different ways.

Comments:

Michael Beck has 2 cats and 2 dogs. “I have been a staunch supporter since first elected in 1998. Thanks for all you do.”

Glenn Douglas has two silver lab puppies. “I love walking the puppies on the bay front. I continue to advocate for others to clean up after their pets and also keep an eye that our township keeps adequate supplies of bags on the beach front.”
Kevin Lare: “I supported and implemented a TNR program in West Cape May.

S. Harvey Roach: “An ordinance to ensure pets are treated humanely is a true measure of the compassion of our community.”

Peter Smith had to place his beautiful cat with a friend as his wife had allergies. He still visits with Panther. “Loose animals should be treated with care. Animals need to be protected from neglect and abuse.”

Dan Lockwood: “Ordinances/census are necessary, but enforcement is the key to ensuring the humane treatments of our pets.

I Am the Voice of the Voiceless

I am the voice of the voiceless: Through me, the dumb shall speak; Till the deaf world's ear be made to hear The cry of the wordless weak. From street, from cage, and from kennel, From jungle and stall, the wail Of my tortured kin proclaims the sin Of the mighty against the frail.
